RALEIGH -- NC State women's tennis has added Abigail Rencheli to its 2020-21 team, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw.
Â
Rencheli, currently ranked ninth nationally and first in Florida in the 2019 recruiting class, boasts a 48-11 record. The five-star and blue chip recruit has been ranked as high as No. 7 nationally.
Â
"Abigail is someone we had been watching for a long time," said Earnshaw. "Even from a distance you could see how hard she always competes and the level of expectation she has for herself. After meeting with Abigail's family and coaches down in Sarasota, and then during her visit, it was very clear to me that she would be an ideal fit. As one of the highest-ranked recruits to ever sign with NC State, Abigail will be an immediate contributor and help provide continuity with the momentum we are building with the program. This is an exciting time to be a part of the Wolfpack. Go Pack!"
Â
The Sarasota, Fla., native also has an impressive Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 11 and ranks sixth in the TennisRPI rankings.
Â
"I chose NC State because I could tell how caring and dedicated the coaches were in each player on the team," said Rencheli. "I felt like everyone there was very genuine, and I thought that the overall environment of the school was very welcoming.
Â
"I want to thank my parents and the rest of my family who sacrificed so much to help me get to this point and always believed in me. I am also very grateful to my coaches, Cary, Scott and the rest of my team who were there for me in my best and worst moments, and always had my back."
Â
In her free time, Rencheli enjoys baking and cooking, volunteering in the community and spending time with friends. The daughter of Sam and Lana Rencheli, she has one older sister, Sisilia, who played tennis at Quinnipiac.
