NC State to open season on Jan. 20 with home doubleheader
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team released its schedule for the 2019 spring season, as announced by head coach Kyle Spencer Wednesday.
The Wolfpack has put together another challenging slate that includes dual matches against 15 teams that ended the 2017-18 season in the top 50 of the ITA/Oracle rankings. After making its return to the NCAA Championships last season, NC State will face 15 teams during the 2019 season that qualified for the postseason in 2018.
The Pack is set to host 16 matches at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, highlighted by a visit from the defending national champions and ACC foe Wake Forest.
After sending two individuals to National Collegiate Tennis Classic in California from Jan. 11-13, NC State will kick off its dual match season at home on Jan. 20 as it hosts a doubleheader against Northwestern and Campbell.
The Pack then heads to Ann Arbor, Mich. for ITA Kick-Off Weekend from Jan. 26-27. As the No. 4 seed in the regional, NC State will first match up against host and No. 1 seed Michigan at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26 and will face either Georgia or Baylor on the second day of competition. The team that wins both of its matches on the weekend will advance to the ITA Division I National Men's Team Indoor Championship, which will be hosted by Illinois from Feb. 15-18.
NC State is set to host another pair of non-conference double headers at the start of February as it faces North Florida and Winthrop on Feb. 2 and South Carolina and North Carolina A&T on Feb. 9. The remainder of the Pack's non-conference slate includes home matches against Old Dominion (Feb. 17), Tennessee (Feb. 22), North Carolina Central (Feb. 24) and Pennsylvania (March 4). Before heading into the bulk of its conference schedule, the Wolfpack will also make trips to take on Oklahoma State (March 8) and Texas (March 10) on the road.
The Wolfpack opens ACC action at home on Feb. 24 as it hosts Virginia Tech. Over the course of conference competition, NC State will also play host to Virginia (March 15), Louisville (March 17), Wake Forest (March 20), Florida State (March 29) and Miami (April 12).
The Pack's ACC road matches include visits to Boston College (March 22), Notre Dame (March 24), UNC-Chapel Hill (April 3), Georgia Tech (April 5), Clemson (April 7) and Duke (April 10).
NC State begins its postseason in late April as the ACC Championships returns to Cary Tennis Park from April 17-21.
The 2019 NCAA Tennis Championships will kick off the weekend of May 3-4 with regional action at selected host sites. Following the first two rounds of regional action, 16 teams will advance to compete in the new Super Regionals format on May 11. From there, eight squads will move on to the NCAA Championships, which is set to be held May 16-19 in Orlando, Fla. Orlando will also serve as the site for the NCAA Individual Championships from May 20-25.
