Distinguished CMP athlete to compete for the Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. – Newly-hired NC State rifle head coach Emily Holsopple is excited to announce her first recruit, as Emily Fisher has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to compete for the Wolfpack. Fisher will join the program as a freshman prior to the start of the 2018-19 academic year.
Â
"Emily is going to be a strong addition to our team, as she brings considerable experience in both air rifle and smallbore," said Holsopple.
Â
Hailing from Fairfax, Va., Fisher lettered in rifle at Robinson Secondary High School in each of the past four years, serving as team captain last season. She was honored as the team MVP in her junior and senior seasons with the program.
Â
Fisher earned First Team All-Metro in air rifle in 2017 and 2018, while claiming honorable mention as a sophomore in 2016. She was a first-team smallbore selection as a senior, second team as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore.
Â
The Wolfpack recruit was recently recognized with the distinguished Civilian Marksmanship Program's Excellence in Competition award for her stellar performance in air rifle. Only three student-athletes have ever earned the honor at Robinson Secondary; former NC State standout, Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky and current member of the Pack rifle team Zach Eisenberg.
Â
Fisher garnered a first-place finish at the United States Army Marksmanship Unit Virginia State qualifier in the air rifle competition with a score of 585.
Â
She charted the second-highest score in the junior division of the 2018 Palmyra Invitational in smallbore and was fourth in high junior of air rifle.
Â
Fisher turned in a stellar performance at the 2018 Junior Air Rifle National Championships, as she finished fifth in the individual standings with a score of 1232.9 to go along with 77 center shots.
Â
She led Robinson Gold to a second-place finish at the State Junior Olympics CMP air rifle competition with a score of 589, the second highest for an individual in the competition to earn a silver medal.
Â
Fisher helped Robinson Secondary best several national marks in air rifle and smallbore at the Blueridge Postal Match, as she logged a near perfect score with a 298, just two points shy of a perfect mark including 26 of 30 center shots.
Â
An excellent student in the classroom and member of the National Honor Society in high school, she is planning to study biological sciences in hopes of pursuing a career in biomedical sciences. Fisher was selected to the academic honor roll and athletic honor roll all four years at Robinson Secondary.
Â
Fisher spends a lot of her free time painting and also plays the ukulele and guitar.
Â
She will rejoin former Robinson Secondary teammates Eisenberg and Claire Spina as a member of the Wolfpack.
