RALEIGH – NC State women's tennis coach Simon Earnshaw announced the signing of 2018 ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year Elizabeth Norman to a financial aid agreement Tuesday. Norman joins the Wolfpack from James Madison.
"We are extremely fortunate that Liz has chosen to continue her athletic career at NC State," said Earnshaw. "It was a quick process but it's one of those where from the initial conversation I got the feeling Liz was going to be absolutely the right fit. Coach Bryce at JMU did a phenomenal job bringing her along this past year rapidly developing her game and the results speak for themselves. Beyond the awards and success on court, what really struck me with Liz though was her enthusiasm to grow as a person and as a player and what I believe will be her contribution to our program culture. She has a level of enthusiasm and personality that's going to bring the absolute best and most out of everyone she comes into contact with. Liz is going to slot right in immediately and rounds out what is a great recruiting class to top off our already strong core group."

Tennis Background
Prior to college was a five-star recruit and the third-highest ranked recruit in the state of Georgia. Led Walton High School to 2016 and 2017 6A State Championships. Freshman year at James Madison went 26-3 in singles including a stellar 18-1 in dual match play playing mostly at #1 singles for the best winning percentage in program history. In addition played exclusively at #1 doubles compiling an overall 23-10 record, 16-7 in dual matches. Was named the 2018 ITA Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year and Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) Rookie of the Year. Two time CAA Player of the Week winner and garnered CAA All Conference First Team honors in both singles and doubles. Clinched James Madison's 4-3 win over Wisconsin winning the deciding match. In Fall 2017 won the Bedford Cup in both singles and doubles.
Bio
Elizabeth is from Terre Haute, Indiana. She is the daughter of Jonie Norman who is an RN and David Norman who is a Mechanical Engineer. She has an older brother and an older sister. She has spent time at various tennis academies in Florida and Atlanta prior to attending James Madison. Elizabeth loves to read books as much as possible, sometimes on the court. Has a fascination for space and will be majoring in Physics. Dream jobs are to work for either NASA or Space X in the future.
Why She Chose NC State
"I chose NC State because once I stepped off the plane, I knew it was going to be my new home," said Norman. "The team was incredibly welcoming and I felt like the coaches are going to be amazing mentors for me. The academics are known to be amazing and both the academic and athletic support staff were phenomenal as well! The campus is beautiful and luckily my new home!"
