Junior outfielder excelling on the field and in the classroom
RALEIGH, N.C. – Not only does fourth-ranked NC State baseball's Brett Kinneman excel on the field, but also in the classroom as he has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced Thursday by the organization.
Â
The award recognizes student-athletes not only for their performance in the classroom, but also on the field. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or better and see significant action on the field.
Â
The York, Pa., native was one of four student-athletes from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selected to the team, as Duke's Ethan DeCaster, Clemson's Logan Davidson and Notre Dame's Alex Kerschner also earned the honor.
Â
For Kinneman, the accolade is the first of his career and first for the program since 2016 when Andrew Knizner claimed CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. The junior outfielder owns a 3.423 grade point average (GPA) pursuing a degree in business administration.
Â
On the field, Kinneman has turned in a stellar junior season as he has compiled a .289 batting average and leads NC State with 14 home runs, which is tied for the second most in the ACC.
Â
He has logged 49 runs batted in (RBI) to rank fourth in the conference and has also scored 41 runs to rank among the top 15 of the league.
Â
Kinneman was named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, which is given annually to the top player in college baseball. D1Baseball and Perfect Game also chose him as a Midseason All-American.
Â
After turning in one of the hottest starts to the season, Kinneman earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Player of the Month honors in February.
Â
He has also garnered ACC Player of the Week twice this season in addition to claiming National Player of the Week.
Â
His strong offensive season has helped NC State lead the ACC in team batting average (.299), runs (351), RBI (318), slugging percentage (.484), and on-base percentage (.400).
Â
The Wolfpack hosts Wake Forest in its final home series this weekend. Friday and Saturday's games are slated for 6:30 p.m., while Sunday's first pitch is at 1 p.m.
