National Search to Begin Immediately
Keith Miller announced his resignation as head coach of the NC State rifle program, it was announced on Wednesday.
Â
"I've been associated with NC State Rifle since I was nine years old, so this is not an easy thing to do," said Miller. "That said, there are times when we all realize that moving on is in the best interests of not only the individual, but the group as a whole.  Now is that time for me, and NC State Rifle.
Â
"I wish NC State and Wolfpack Rifle nothing but success moving forward," Miller added. "I am exceedingly proud of what we have accomplished, not just athletically but the things each of our students have accomplished in the classroom and as the awesome individuals they grew into. Hosting the NCAA Rifle Championships in 2022 will be an awesome and special event for NC State, and I look forward to watching it."
Â
A former NC State rifle student-athlete, Miller's teams produced seven SEARC championships, four individual SEARC titles and an Olympian during his 29-year tenure. In the recently completed 2018 season, the Wolfpack finished No. 11 nationally among the 29 institutions that sponsor rifle.
Â
"We appreciate all of Keith's contributions to our rifle program, both as a coach and during his time as a student-athlete," said associate athletics director and sport supervisor John Portland. "We wish he and his family well in the future."
Â
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately, led by Portland.  Melissa Quartarone will continue in her role as assistant coach and manage the team in the interim period.
