RALEIGH – The #40 NC State women's tennis team looks to secure a pair of wins and head coach Simon Earnshaw aims to earn the 800th win of his coaching career when the Wolfpack takes on Oklahoma at 12 p.m. and South Dakota at 5 p.m. Friday at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida.
Currently sitting on 799 career wins, Earnshaw accumulated a record of 747-118 at Armstrong State as he went 411-35 with the women's team and 325-11 with the men's team. Since coming to NC State in 2014 he has a 52-46 record.
From the Coach
"In some ways it's a cliche that we take it one match at a time but you never want to look beyond your next match and that's even more important when you are faced with a doubleheader," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. First it's exciting to play at the USTA National Campus and we are thankful for the opportunity to be here at Lake Nona. The past two days we've gotten some good practice in outdoors and with it being Spring Break the girls have had more opportunity than normal to spend time together and for us to take in some activities outside of tennis. Our first match of the day against Oklahoma is going to be a tough one, we don't see them regularly but have been up against them in recruiting recently thus there's a level of familiarity, so I expect it to be hard fought and well played. The match-up vs South Dakota follow's in the late afternoon, and I think it's probably a first time match-up between the two programs. We need to stay focused and work to maintain our intensity, we've already had a few doubleheaders this spring therefore it's nothing new and I expect it to be a good test or where we stand with the team at what is about mid-season for us. Go Pack!"
Pack in the Rankings
The ITA released its latest rankings on Mar. 6; NC State was ranked #40 as a team, Claudia Wiktorin & Anna Rogers were ranked #13 in doubles and Anna Rogers moved up from #113 in singles to #51.
Last time out for the Wolfpack
On Mar. 4 the #40 Wolfpack earned a 6-1 ACC win over Boston College at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Pack quickly earned the doubles point then carried its impressive play over to singles, winning five-out-of six singles matches against the Eagles.
