RALEIGH, N.C. – Seven alums will represent NC State at the 2018 NFL Combine – the highest total in school history and the eighth-highest mark in the nation. The event gets underway this week in Indianapolis.
The Wolfpack will be sending all four of its starters from the 2017 defensive line: Bradley Chubb, B.J. Hill, Justin Jones and Kentavius Street.
Chubb, who won the 2017 Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation's top defensive player and was a consensus first-team All-American, set the NC State career records for both sacks (26) and tackles for loss (60). He finished 2017 as the Power 5 leader in both sacks (10) and TFLs (26).
Fellow DE Street started 35 games over the past three seasons, including all 13 in 2017. Street has been mentioned by numerous publications as one to watch during the workouts, as he posts a 400-lb. power clean and squats 700 lb. and performed well in the East West Shrine Game earlier this year.
The starting defensive tackle duo of Jones and Hill both started all 26 games over the last two seasons. Both competed in the 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl, where they both turned heads.
The defensive line workouts will take place on Sunday, March 4.
On offense, the Pack's utility weapon over the last four seasons, Jaylen Samuels, will be working out with the tight ends on Saturday, March 3.
Samuels was a third-team Associated Press All-American as a tight end, and a first-team All-ACC choice as an all-purpose player. He finished his Wolfpack career as the school's all-time leader in receptions with 202, and his 47 career touchdowns ranks second in school history. His 76 receptions in 2017 were the most of any tight end nationally, and the second-most among non-WRs.
In addition to those five seniors, NC State also had a pair of underclassmen declare for the NFL Draft after the Wolfpack's win in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
RB Nyheim Hines was a first-team All-ACC selection as a running back in 2017 after rushing for 1,112 yards and 12 TDs. He was one of four finalists for the Paul Hornung Award, given to the nation's most versatile player, and a second-team All-America selection as an all-purpose player after ranking fifth in the Power 5 and leading the ACC with 143.6 all-purpose yards per game.
OT Will Richardson was a second-team All-ACC selection, as he did not allow a sack or a pressure in any of the Pack's eight ACC contests. He earned the team's Jim Ritcher Award for the top offensive lineman.
Both the running backs and the offensive linemen will be in action at the NFL Combine on Friday, March 2.
Head coach Dave Doeren's first full recruiting turned into six NFL Combine invitees, as Hines was in the following recruiting class of 2015.
After the NFL Combine, NC State will hold its Pro Day on Monday, March 19.
