Junior hit five home runs during the week
RALEIGH, N.C. – After turning in one of the best weeks in the history of the NC State baseball program, Brett Kinneman has garnered the attention of several national media outlets as well as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Â
He has been named National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball, College Sports Madness, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Perfect Game. Additionally, Kinneman was tabbed the ACC Player of the Week.
Â
The junior outfielder hit five home runs during the week to take over the ACC lead and tie for second nationally. Kinneman hit for the home run cycle, as he hit a grand slam against N.C. A&T on Tuesday, a two-run and three-run homer on Friday and a solo homer on Saturday and Sunday against Furman.Â
Â
He collected 15 RBIs for the week to lead the conference with 17 total RBIs on the season, which is tied for the second most among NCAA Division I players. Kinneman had at least one RBI in each game, headlined by six RBIs versus the Aggies and five RBIs against Furman on Friday.
Â
The York, Pa., native also scored seven runs, hit a triple and stole two bases.
Â
For the week, he was 13-of-21 to compile a .619 batting average at the plate and also made a few nice catches defensively. His 15 hits for the season ranks among the top 10 of the NCAA.
Â
Kinneman is the first Wolfpack player to claim the honors since Joe Dunand was tabbed Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week and Co-ACC Player of the Week on May 1, 2017.
Â
NC State is off to an 8-1 start and is back in action Friday afternoon when the Wolfpack hosts Bowling Green. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
