For the first time in school history, the Wolfpack football squad boasts three academic all-district performers in the same year, as center Garrett Bradbury, punter A.J. Cole, III and quarterback Ryan Finley have been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Football Team. Cole and Bradbury are repeat academic all-district performers while all three were Academic All-ACC choices for 2017.
Finley is also a finalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes the nation's top scholar-athlete, and has been named a member of the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete Class. The ACC leader in passing and total offense, Finley is the only player in the FBS who earned a Master's degree prior to the 2018 season.
Cole, a semifinalist for the Wuerffel Trophy and a member of the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, has posted a 3.67 GPA in industrial engineering and plans to graduate in December. He is only the fourth four-year starter at punter in school history and ranks third in the career record books in punting average at 42.2 ypp.
Bradbury has been named a semifinalist for the Outland Trophy, which honors the nation's top interior lineman. In 679 snaps this season, he has not allowed a sack and has allowed just two quarterback pressures on 348 pass attempts. He graduated from NC State last December.
Selected by CoSIDA, the honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
