RALEIGH – Coming off impressive showings throughout spring and summer competition, sophomore Anna Rogers along with juniors Bianca Moldovan and Claudia Wiktorin of the NC State women's tennis team have been selected to compete in the 2017 Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California, at the Riviera Tennis Club. Sophomore Adriana Reami was chosen as an alternate.
Pre-qualifying occurs from Sept. 30 until Oct. 1, qualifying runs from Oct. 3 until Oct. 4, while the main draw commences on Oct. 5, running through until Oct. 8.
Rogers was named to the qualifying singles alternate list, but was selected to compete in pre-qualifying singles and qualifying doubles, where she will be teaming up with Wiktorin.
Moldovan will join Rogers in pre-qualifying singles competition, while Reami is on the pre-qualifying singles alternate list.
Head Coach Simon Earnshaw was pleased to see the Wolfpack recognized and was excited about the opportunity it has been presented.
"Like last year, we have four individuals entered" he said. "The difference is this year we qualified more players in singles, and also younger players. For Anna and Adriana, coming off their excellent freshmen years it's really a bonus and then a great opportunity for them to kick on in their own right and get some individual recognition. For Bianca, it was a goal of hers coming into college to make the All-American Championships. It's been a longer process, but we're now seeing the fruits of that labor. In doubles, both Anna and Claudia had great years so we've paired them together. All in all, I'm very happy for the girls and it's a great opportunity for them to play some ranked players before the season and get some results on the board. We are really excited for the trip out to Los Angeles in late September."
Moldovan was likewise thrilled about the opportunity and pleased to see her hard work was paying off.
"I feel like I'm starting off my junior year the right way and getting selected to play in the ITA All-American Championships is a great accomplishment already" she articulated. "This just shows me that hard work does pay off and I just need to continue trusting the process and continue improving."
The trio, with the possible addition of Reami , will look to carry the form that saw them earn a program-best No. 16 NCAA national ranking during the 2016-17 season into the Championships and the rest of the fall season.
