RALEIGH, N.C. – Wolfpack fans may need to change the batteries in their remote controls before Sunday if they want to keep up with NC State alums in the NFL. There could be FOUR games in Week 2 that feature starting quarterbacks who honed their craft at #QBU.
Â
If Jacoby Brissett starts for the Indianapolis Colts against the Arizona Cardinals (1 p.m.), NC State will become only the fourth school in history to boast four NFL starting QBs during the same season. Mike Glennon will lead the Chicago Bears against his former team, the Tampa Bay Bucs (1 p.m.), Philip Rivers will lead the Los Angeles Chargers against the Miami Dolphins (4:00 p.m.) and Russell Wilson's Seattle Seahawks will take on the San Francisco 49ers (4:25 p.m.).
Â
The Wolfpack would join Miami (1993 with Craig Erickson, Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, and Vinny Testeverde), Michigan (2004 with Tom Brady, Brian Griese, Chad Henne, and John Navarre) and USC (2009 with Matt Leinart, Matt Cassell, Carson Palmer and Mark Sanchez) as the only other schools with four starting QBs in a season.
Â
Rivers is the veteran of the Wolfpack's NFL QBs, having started every game with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers dating back to the 2006 season. Now in his 14th season, Rivers has 185 NFL starts. In the Broncos' loss at Denver Monday night, Rivers was 22-of-33 for 192 yards with three touchdowns.
Â
Wilson has started every game since he was drafted in 2012. Heading into this weekend, Wilson has 93 career starts, including multiple starts in the playoffs in every season of his pro career. In the Seahawks' loss at Green Bay, Wilson was 14-of-27 for 158 yards and led Seattle in rushing with 40 yards.
Â
Glennon is in his first year as the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback. In the offseason, he signed a three-year $45 million contract after spending his first three pro seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was named to the Pro Football Writer's Association's All-Rookie Team in 2013 after starting the final 13 games of the season, and he also notched five starts in 2014. Last weekend in the Bears' opening loss, he was 26-of-40 for 213 yards and 1 TD.
Â
Brissett is in his second NFL season, and could make his third career start this weekend. Last season, Brissett started weeks 3 & 4 for the New England Patriots while Tom Brady was suspended. This season, Brissett was traded to the Colts the week before the season opener, and has only been a member of the team since September 2. Coming on in the fourth quarter of the Colts' opening season loss, he was 2-of-3 for 51 yards.
