TAIPEI, Taiwan – The NC State men's & women's swimming & diving team will be bringing another gold medal from the World University games back to Raleigh, as Ryan Held won gold in the 100-meter freestyle on day five at the National Taiwan Sports University.
Â
Held's time of 48.36 earned him gold, and was a tenth off his lifetime best achieved at the Olympic trials last summer.
Â
Held was not the only NC State swimmer to impress on the day, as Kayla Brumbaum set a program record in the 200 breaststroke final. She was also unlucky not to earn a medal of her own, as her time of 2:24.91 seconds trailed third-place finisher Maria Temnikova of Russia by .22 of a second.
Â
Â
Hannah Moore also excelled, as she put herself in a position to compete for a medal in tomorrow night's final of the 800 freestyle, finishing the semifinal in 8:33.00 seconds to earn herself the No. 2 seed.
Â
Up Next
Held competes in the heat and semifinal of the 50 freestyle, while Moore looks to earn gold in the 800 freestyle final.
