The Wolfpack landed five players on Athlon Sports' preseason All-ACC teams and boasts two of the top three all-purpose players in the league for 2017 according to that publication.
Â
Senior DE Bradley Chubb, who ranked fourth in the FBS in tackles for loss last season, is a first-team choice on defense. His 22 TFLs in 2016 was the second-best mark in school history, trailing only No. 1 NFL draft pick Mario Williams.
Senior offensive guard Tony Adams, who leads the Wolfpack with 35 career starts and 2,472 career snaps, was a first-team choice on the offense. Adams was a major reason the Wolfpack produced its first 1,000-yard rusher in 14 years a year ago.
Â
NC State's H-back, Jaylen Samuels, was the top choice as an all-purpose player on the Athlon list. The senior was the Pack's leading receiver (55 catches) and third-leading rusher last season. He ranks sixth in school history with 31 touchdowns – 15 receiving and 16 rushing.
Â
Rising junior Nyheim Hines is the third-team choice on offense at all-purpose back. Â Hines played wide receiver in 2016 but moved to running back this spring. He has tallied 2,770 all-purpose yards for his career. Â Truly an all-purpose athlete, Hines is currently in Lexington, Ky., with the NC State Track & Field squad, competing in the NCAA Championships.
Â
Hines was also a fourth-team choice as a specialist after tallying 782 kickoff return yards a year ago – the fifth-best mark in school history.
Â
Senior defensive tackle B.J. Hill was named to the fourth-team defense. The quiet leader of the Wolfpack's vaunted defensive line, Hill has more career starts (31) than any other returning player on defense this season.
