RALEIGH, N.C. - Having won 13 of its last 15 games, the NC State baseball team heads to the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship red-hot as the Wolfpack will begin play in the event against 11th-seed Boston College. Game time is slated for 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field.
Â
The contest will be broadcast live on Regional Sports Networks (RSN) and on the ACC Network Extra (Subject to blackout in TV coverage areas). Radio coverage will also be available on WKNC 88.1 and on GoPack.com for premium subscribers.
Â
NC State enters the championship with a 33-22 overall record, while Boston College is 25-26.
Â
Last Time Out
In its last outing, the Wolfpack came up short in its quest for the sweep against the 12th-ranked Clemson Tigers. NC State won Thursday and Friday's games to clinch the series, but was unable to complete the sweep in Saturday's game as the Tigers were victorious.
Â
Boston College defeated Notre Dame, 8-7, in its most recent outing on Sunday afternoon to complete the sweep against the Fighting Irish.
Â
First ACC Championship Meeting with Boston College
NC State and Boston College have never met in the ACC Championship, as Tuesday's matchup will be the first meeting between the programs in the conference's postseason event. Â
Â
Last Time Versus Boston College
The Wolfpack had a tough trip to Boston College earlier this season, as the Eagles swept the three-game series capped by a 1-0 win in the series finale.
Â
Scouting Boston College
Boston College heads into the championship on a six-game winning streak, as the Eagles have not lost a game May 7 against Wake Forest. The Eagles are coming off a home sweep against Notre Dame.
Â
BC owns a team batting average of .256 and is averaging 4.84 runs per game to go along with 8.29 hits per contest. Jake Alu leads the squad with a .335 clip at the plate. On the mound, Boston College pitchers have an ERA of 5.17. Tuesday's starter Jacob Stevens is 5-6 on the season with a 5.01 ERA.
Â
The Eagles swept the regular season series against NC State.
Â
What a Play by Mendoza
Wolfpack third baseman Evan Mendoza made arguably one of the top plays in NCAA baseball this season when he leapt over the rail in the third base dugout to make the catch on a foul ball. He tracked it from the field and was fully extended to make the grab, while falling into the Clemson dugout.
Â
The play was recognized as the top play on SportsCenter's top 10 countdown.
Â
Something You Don't See Everyday
NC State's Will Wilson hit an inside the park grand slam in the eighth inning of Friday night's 12-10 win. The freshman crushed a pitch to deep center field and the Clemson outfielder dove to try and make the catch but was unable and Wilson circled the bases for an inside the park home run. It was the first inside the park homer of the season for the Wolfpack.
Â
Wilson also hit a grand slam at Wake Forest earlier in the season, as the freshman now owns two grand slams and the Wolfpack has hit three total.
Â
10 In A Row for Cosgrove
Catcher Andy Cosgrove dropped a bunt single in Saturday's game against Clemson to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, just one shy of matching Will Wilson for the longest of the season for a Wolfpack player at 11 games.
Â
During the streak, the Kirkland, Wash., native is batting .400 with 14 hits, 10 runs scored, eight RBI, three doubles and two homers. He's also slugging .657 with a .475 on-base percentage in those contests.
Â
Kinneman's Getting On Base
Brett Kinneman has reached base safely in each of the last 15 games for NC State. During the stretch, he's recorded a hit in 12 games and has drawn a walk in each game he's been held without a base hit.
Â
He's batting .327 over that span with 18 hits and nine walks to compile a .424 on-base percentage.
Â
Protecting the Lead
The Wolfpack has done a nice job protecting leads late in games, as the squad is a perfect 32-0 when leading at the end of the seventh inning.
