Junior recorded 13 RBI and hit four home runs during the week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – After hitting four home runs and recording 13 runs batted in during the week, NC State baseball's Joe Dunand has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's (ACC) Co-Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.
Â
Additionally, the junior shortstop has been tabbed one of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's (CBN) National Players of the Week. Both awards are the first of Dunand's career. He shares the conference's award with Louisville's Brendan McKay.
Â
Dunand had a monstrous week at the plate, as he was 9-for-15 with 13 RBI, eight runs scored, four home runs and four doubles to help NC State compile a perfect 5-0 mark against opponents. His four homers helped take sole possession of the ACC lead and tie for sixth nationally.
Â
The Miami, Fla., native homered in the first three games of the week, but was pitched around in the last two contests. He left the yard twice on Tuesday, the second multi-homer game of his career and recorded a career-best 10 total bases, to help head coach Elliott Avent earn his 1,000th career win.
Â
Dunand also homered at East Carolina to help seal the win, as his two-run shot put the team ahead 5-0. He ignited the Wolfpack offense in Friday's win versus Virginia Tech, as his solo home run knotted the game at one and the Wolfpack went on to win, 5-2.
Â
More impressively, Dunand tallied 13 runs batted in for the week with at least one RBI in all five games. He had five against NCCU, two at ECU, one in game one against Virginia Tech, two in the second game and tallied three RBI in the series finale despite not having a hit. He doubled in four of the five games.
Â
For the week, Dunand had a slugging percentage of 1.667 and an on-base percentage of .636 with 25 total bases. He was also stellar defensively, as he notched 11 assists to go along with six putouts with just one error. Dunand now owns 27 career homers, fourth most among active players in the ACC.
Â
The Wolfpack returns to action Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. against Delaware at Doak Field at Dail Park.
