#Pack9 Drops Series Finale to Austin Peay

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State baseball team came up short in its series finale against Austin Peay, dropping a 7-3 decision Sunday afternoon at Doak Field at Dail Park. The Wolfpack won Friday and Saturday's games to clinch the series, but was unable to complete the sweep.
NC State falls to 4-2 on the season, while the Governors run their record to 4-3.
Austin Peay struck first in the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the second to take its first lead of the series. With runners at second and third, Landon Kelly doubled to left center to score both runners and give the Governors a 2-0 lead.
The Wolfpack countered in the bottom of the third with a couple runs to even the score at 2-2. Stephen Pitarra walked to lead off the frame and moved over to third base on a double by Will Wilson. Austin Peay intentionally walked Brett Kinneman to load the bases for Evan Mendoza and the junior from Sarasota, Fla., made it costly.
Mendoza lined a single to right field, allowing Pitarra and Wilson to score on the play, knotting the score at two.
Chase Hamilton homered for the Governors in the top of the fifth to give Austin Peay a 3-2 lead.
Wolfpack reliever Austin Staley struck out the side in the seventh to give NC State momentum heading to the bottom of the inning. Joe Dunand led off with a solo homerun to left field to level the score at 3-3, his second consecutive game with a homer.
Unfortunately for the Pack, Austin Peay answered with four runs in the eighth to regain the lead, 7-3. A wild pitch with the bases loaded plated the first run and a three-run homer by Kelly gave the Govs a four-run advantage and they held on for the victory.
