Wolfpack junior started 58 games at shortstop last season
DURHAM, N.C. – NC State junior Joe Dunand has been tabbed to the 2017 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List, announced Wednesday by USA Baseball. The Wolfpack infielder is one of 13 representatives from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on the list.
Since 1978, the Golden Spikes Award has been presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the nation. Former All-Americans Carlos Rodon and Trea Turner garnered the preseason watch list recognition in 2014, as the most recent NC State players to be named list.
Dunand, a native of Miami, Fla., compiled a .297 batting average last season, highlighted by 70 hits with 18 doubles. The Wolfpack shortstop started 58 games in 2016, recording a team-high 181 assists to go along with 118 putouts.
He collected 41 RBIs, scored 35 runs and hit four home runs. Dunand put together a nine-game hitting streak at the beginning of the 2016 season and ended the year on an eight-game hitting streak.
