Pack Climbs Five Spots Up Leaderboard At LPR Invite

Women’s golf sits in fifth out of 15 teams
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – The No. 29 NC State women's golf team put together a second round score of 289 ( 1) on Monday to climb five spots up the team leaderboard, and sit in a tie for fifth place out of 15 teams at the Lady Puerto Rico Invitational in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The Wolfpack shaved 14 strokes off its first round score at the Rio Mar CC to share a tie with Georgia and Michigan with a 36-hole total of 592 ( 16). The team total additionally was the lowest 18-hole score posted on Monday.
"I was really excited to see the team shoot the low round of the day," said head coach Page Marsh. "Naomi (Ko), Sarah (Bae) and Cecily (Overbey) all put together solid rounds, and I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone fights out there tomorrow."
Furman is leading the tournament after two days with a total of 583, while Kent State and TCU are in second and third with scores of 586 and 590, respectively.
On the individual leaderboard, Naomi Ko moved into the top 10 as she sits in a tie for eighth after posting a one-under par 71 on Monday for a 36-hole score of 145 ( 1).
Sarah Bae and Cecily Overbey moved into the top 20 of the standings as both are tied for 18th with a 148 ( 4). Bae fired a two-under 70, shaving eight strokes off of Sunday's round, and Overbey shot a 72.
India Clyburn and Leonie Bettel rounded out to top five for the Pack as Clyburn shot 76 and is tied for 38th with a 151 ( 7) and Bettel posted a 78 to tie for 68th with a 158 ( 14).
Stephanie Pribonic, who is competing as an individual in the tournament, shot 79 on Monday and is tied for 64th with a 12-over total of 156.
NC State will wrap up play Tuesday at the Lady Puerto Rico Invite with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. The Pack will be paired with players from Arkansas and Michigan on holes four through seven.
