RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State senior defensive end Bradley Chubb has been named the 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Chubb will be honored during the ACC Night of Legends presented by the Charlotte Sports Foundation at the Charlotte Convention Center on Friday, Dec. 1
Â
"We're so proud of Bradley and all that he's accomplished this season and throughout his career," said NC State head coach Dave Doeren.  "I believe that he is not only the best defensive player in the ACC, but in the entire country. It's been an absolute pleasure to be his coach."Â
Â
Chubb is just the second Wolfpack player to win the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year Award since it was first awarded in 1993. Former NC State linebacker Levar Fisher, who won't the honor in 2000, will also be honored at Friday night's dinner.
Â
A season-long team captain, Chubb leads the ACC in sacks (10.0) and tackles for loss (26), tallying 10 more tackles for loss than any other league player. Those totals rank eighth and second respectively in the FBS. He recorded at least a tackle for loss in every game this season but one, and in 18 of his last 19 games overall. His 75 total tackles also rank as the second-most among defensive linemen in the conference.
Â
He enters the bowl game as the NC State career record holder with 60 TFLs (fourth in ACC history) and 26 career sacks (18th in ACC history)
Â
A finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award, Chubb will be back in Charlotte on Monday, Dec. 4, for the Nagurski banquet and will be in Atlanta on Dec. 7 for the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show for the Bednarik announcement. He is also a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
Chubb led the ACC Defensive Player of the Year balloting with 45 votes. Clemson's Wilkins and Farrell were the next closest with four votes each.
