RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team (11-4-1, 4-3-1 ACC) is set for its final road trip of the regular season when it faces Virginia Tech (7-5-4, 1-4-3 ACC) Sunday at Thompson Field. Kickoff is 5 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wolfpack picked up its third straight win over a conference opponent on Thursday evening when it shut out Clemson 1-0 at Dail Soccer Stadium. It marked the team's 11th win and ninth shutout of the season.
Kia Rankin scored the game-winner in the 31st minute, giving her four goals this season. She placed a shot from inside the left corner of the six-yard box to the right corner of the net on a Cailyn Boch assist after the team was awarded a corner kick.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday will mark the 14th time NC State and Virginia Tech have met in the all-time series, as the Hokies hold a 9-4 advantage. The squads last met in September of 2015 and VT won 3-0.
APPROACHING RECORDS
Although the Pack has two more contests left in its regular season, NC State has matched its number of overall and ACC wins from last season when the program made its historic run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
A win on Sunday in Blacksburg, Va., would mark the most overall (12) and ACC (5) wins in a season since 1995.
NC State is currently in a tie for fifth among the ACC standings with 13 points and a .750 win percentage. The top eight teams advance to the ACC Championship, and with the regular season coming to a close Oct. 26 the Wolfpack has a chance to clinch back-to-back berths to the tournament for the first time since 2003 and 2004.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
The Hokies hosted UNC-Chapel Hill on Thursday evening in its last time out and dropped a 4-0 result. VT earned its first win against a conference opponent on Oct. 15 when it defeated Notre Dame 2-1 on the road.
Alani Johnson is the team's leading scorer with four goals, while Allyson Brown has tallied three this season and leads her squad with a .556 shot-on-goal percentage. Goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn owns a 6-5-4 record with a 1.15 goals against average and .776 save percentage.
