NC State Falls in Tough Match to ODU

The Pack sent three key matches to three sets, but fell in two of them, as ODU earned the victory.
"This team together hasn't won anything yet," said head coach Jon Choboy. "We have to figure out how to do that. Old Dominion is a good team. They won a lot of matches last year and know how to win."
"They got chances and they finished and closed out the games. That's what a team that wins knows how to do and we did not do that. We put ourselves in a position to win. We were serving for a couple sets twice and we just didn't do it."
NC State debuted a young squad with one senior and eight underclassmen. Three singles players made spring debuts, while only three regular singles players returned from last season's lineup.
The experienced ODU that team edged NC State last season returned five of its top six in their singles lineup.

ODU clinched the doubles point with 6-2 wins at courts one and three to take momentum and a 1-0 advantage into singles play.
The Monarchs jumped out to a lead on three of the four singles matches, however a strong Wolfpack rally drew the team back into the match, as No. 37 Nick Horton and No. 103 Alexis Galarneau won their first sets and Igor Saveljic won his second set.
An ODU victory at No. 3 singles extended the lead to 2-0. The Monarchs added to their lead again and reclaimed momentum, as No. 24 Adam Moundir edged Horton in a top-40 battle, winning 6-7(1-7), 6-3, 6-3.
Igor pulled a point back for NC State in a come-from-behind victory at No. 4 singles, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
ODU clinched the match, as Galarneau fell in three sets (7-6 (7-1), 6-7 (2-7), 6-3) on his debut to Michael Weindl.
Georgiy Malyshev and Sean Burnette also fell in three sets on their debuts, as ODU closed out the victory.
Up Next:
The team will be back in action Monday for a double header against the Citadel. The matches will be playing at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center at 10 a.m. 1 p.m.
