RALEIGH, N.C. - It was PackPro vs. PackPro in Seattle on Sunday as two former Wolfpackers lined up for opposing teams.
Â
Defensive end Mario Williams took the field for Miami for the first time having been with the Buffalo Bills the past four seasons. Williams found himself lined up against the Seahawks' Russell Wilson, a fellow PackPro and NC State alumnus. Williams made his way into the pocket to bring down Wilson for his first sack of the season, and recorded two tackles as well. During the game, however, Williams suffered a concussion and was removed from the game. Despite the strong defense, the Dolphins lost to the Seahawks, as Wilson and his team outscored Miami 12-10. Russell Wilson also suffered an injury (ankle) during the game, but remained in the game. The winning score came on a two-yard Wilson pass with just 31 seconds left.Â
Â
Â
In total, Wilson completed 27-of-43 passes for 258 yards and one touchdown. The remaining points scored by the Seahawks came from teammate and former Wolfpacker Steven Hauschka who kicked two field goals, the longest being 39 yards.
Â
Seven additional NC State alumni took the field for their respective teams.
Â
Philip Rivers completed 25-of-36 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City on Sunday. The Chargers led the game until the fourth quarter when the Chiefs managed to come back from a 17-point deficit. The game advanced to overtime, but it was the Chiefs who walked away with the victory, 27-33.
Dontae Johnson also had a strong game with two tackles for the San Francisco 49ers, who shut out the Los Angeles Rams, 28-0, on Monday Night Football. David Amerson had four tackles for the Raiders, who edged out the New Orleans Saints, 35-34. PackPros T.Y. McGill (Colts), Willie Young (Bears), Audie Cole (Vikings), and Juston Burris (Jets) also got the job done on the field for their teams. Burris will also now wear number 32 on his jersey, after formerly wearing number 11 with the Pack.
Â
Burris will be the first PackPro looking to find game action in Week 2 as the Jets take on the Bills Thursday night at 8:25 p.m.
Two former Wolfpack players got the starting nod as offensive linemen, Ted Larsen at center for the Chicago Bears and Joe Thuney at guard for the New England Patriots.
