Women’s Golf 2016 Summer Update

Members of the program compete in various tournaments around the world
RALEIGH- Members of the NC State women's golf team have been diligently working at their craft this summer, traveling around the world and competing in various amateur and professional tournaments.
July has particularly been a busy month for the Wolfpack, as players are working to maintain their competitive edge in order to prepare for the team's 2016-17 season.
Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship
Sarah Bae and Cecily Overbey wrapped up play at the Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship on Friday at Bermuda Run Country Club in Advance, N.C., as both advanced to the Round of 16 in match play. Bae, who recently tied for first place at the Judson Collegiate Championship, took medalist honors in stroke play with a 69 (-3), while Overbey carded a 73 ( 2) to finish fourth.
In match play, Overbey was crowned champion after winning four matches in two days. On the first day she defeated Elizabeth Ann Gore, 2&1, in the Round of 16 and earned a 3&1 win over Carley Cox in the quarterfinals. In the Round of 16 Bae fell to Kayla Thompson after 19 holes.
In the semifinals Ovrebey defeated two-time defending champion Mallory Hetzel, 1-up, to face Maddisen Cox in the championship final. She managed to win her final match, 5&3, to finish off a strong showing.
United States Women's Open
Rising sophomore Naomi Ko saw action in her second professional tournament of the summer, as she had the opportunity to compete in the 2016 United States Women's Open at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif., on July 7-10.
Ko, who played at the Portland Classic the previous week, shot a 74 the first day but struggled the second day and carded an 83 to tally a 36-hole score of 157 ( 13).
European Ladies Amateur Team Championship
Leonie Bettel and Rachael Taylor each represented their home countries at the European Ladies Amateur Team Championship at Oddur GC in Iceland last week. Bettel, an Austria native, posted a 36-hole score of 149 (72-77) while Taylor, a native of Scotland, posted a 153 (78-75).
Both players' respective teams finished 3-0 in their respective flights. Team Scotland defeated Netherlands, Slovenia and Italy en route to its perfect standings, while Team Austria earned wins over Wales, Poland and Czech Republic.
Individually Taylor finished 1-2 and Bettel finished 2-1 on the week in match play.
English Women's Open Match Play Championship
India Clyburn additionally saw action in Europe at the English Women's Open Match Play Championship at Holme Hall Golf Club on June 30-July 2, as she finished second in the stroke play portion with a two-day total of 141 (69-72).
Her strong play advanced the Cleethorpes, England, native to match play where she defeated Katrina Gillum, 1-up, in the Round of 16 but fell to Sophie Madden, 1-up, in the quarterfinals.
