Junior Olympics qualifier to compete for the Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State rifle head coach Keith Miller announced Thursday that Zach Eisenberg has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to compete for the Wolfpack. Eisenberg will join the program prior to the start of the 2016-17 academic year.
Â
"We're very happy to have Zach as the newest member of our Wolfpack Rifle Family," said Miller. "We've been watching his progress over the last few years, as he comes from the same high school program as our current team members Lucas [Kozeniesky], Caitlyn [Ford], and Claire [Spina]. This year he improved quite a bit, especially in air rifle. We expect with continued hard work he will integrate right into our lineup next year."
Â
Eisenberg has lettered in rifle at Robinson Secondary High School in each of the past four years, serving as a team captain during his junior and senior seasons. He earned first team All-Metro honors in air rifle and smallbore for the 2015-16 season, while securing second team Potomac High School Rifle League (PHSRL) in smallbore and third team in air rifle.
Â
In addition, the Burke, Va., native was awarded Robinson's Top Gun Award for smallbore, as the team's best shooter in the event this past season. As a junior, Eisenberg was tabbed a first team All-Metro selection in air rifle and garnered second team honors in smallbore. After his sophomore campaign, he was named a second team PHSRL selection in air rifle and smallbore.
Â
The NC State signee has played a vital role in his team's success the past three seasons, as he was a scoring member on three consecutive regional championship teams for the PHSRL. In fact, the smallbore group that he was a member of holds the program's regional record.
Â
Â
"As we raise our level of performance next year as a part of our goal to qualify as a team for the NCAA Championships, we're going to count on all of our incoming freshmen to up their game right off the bat," Miller added. "We want them to challenge our existing team members for a spot on the traveling squad, as that kind of intrasquad competition is what will make us stronger and deeper as a team. We need to be both in order to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships." Â
Â
Eisenberg has qualified for the Junior Olympic National Championships in each of the past three seasons and helped his team earn a berth in the event in 2014 and 2015. He collected a silver medal at the state level during his sophomore year and garnered bronze following the 2015-16 season.
Â
Not only does he excel athletically, but also academically and in the community. Eisenberg is a member of the National Honor Society and Athletics Honor Roll in addition to earning his Eagle Scout.
Â
Â
With his signing, the 2016-17 team is now set. Eisenberg will join November signees Sarah Hickey and Claire Zanti to complete the freshman class.
