No. 12 Wolfpack Bests No. 19 Georgia Tech, 8-3

NC State baseball came back to win the series opener in Atlanta
ATLANTA, GA. - No. 12 NC State baseball topped No. 19 Georgia Tech 8-3 on Friday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Wolfpack (25-9, 9-5 ACC) won its seventh in a row and fifth-consecutive in ACC play. Georgia Tech (23-10, 7-8) climbed to a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third. NC State took command with a three-run fifth highlighted by Josh McLain's 13th double of the year. Joe Dunand doubled in the sixth to make it 4-2. The Jackets closed the gap to 4-3 in the eighth, before an error-plagued top ninth allowed NC State to set the final 8-3.
Every batter in the Wolfpack lineup contributed at least one hit. McLain finished 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs, and a double. Preston Palmeiro drove in a pair during a 2-for-5 outing with a run and his 15th double of the year. Andrew Knizner submitted a 2-for-5 performance with a run. Evan Mendoza extended his hitting streak to eight games.
NC State starter Cory Wilder (2-1) scored the win on five innings of work, allowing two earned on three hits and three walks, fanning five. Will Gilbert held on for 3 1/3 with one earned on three hits, two punchouts, and no walks. Austin Staley retired the last two batters of the game, including one strikeout.
For Elliott Avent, it's the eighth win in his last nine games against Georgia Tech, and four in a row at Russ Chandler Stadium.
