RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State safeties coach and co-special teams coordinator Clayton White has been named the defensive coordinator for the 2016 Conference USA Champion Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers. White, a former Wolfpack linebacker, has been a member of Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren's staff since 2013.
Â
"Although our staff and players will miss him, we're very happy and proud of Clayton," said Doeren. "He is a hard-working, knowledgeable coach who has been an integral part of our staff. It's rewarding as a head coach to help another coach reach his goals, and it's been his goal to be a defensive coordinator. As a former player, he will always be a part of the Wolfpack family."
Â
White, who coached the Wolfpack's leading tackler in two of the past three seasons, spent the 2010 season as the defensive backs coach at WKU.Â
Â
"Although leaving is hard, this is an opportunity that I'm ready for and looking forward to," said White. "I'm proud of where the program is now and I can't wait to watch them do great things. It will be gratifying for Kelly and I to know we were there for the foundation and to watch the players we've recruited, developed and coached continue to succeed. NC State has been a part of my life for a long time and will continue to be.
Â
"I want to thank our administration, Coach Doeren, Coach Huxtable, Coach Nielsen, Coach Barlow and the rest of the staff for their support. It means a lot.'
