RALEIGH, N.C. - The Wolfpack Olympic Regional Training Center (RTC) will be sending six individuals to compete in the Bill Farrell Memorial International Open this weekend.
A pair of current members of the NC State wrestling team will be among those in action. Freshman Hayden Hidlay and senior Pete Renda - both expected to redshirt this upcoming season for the Pack - will be among the RTC's contingent at the Bill Farrell Memorial International Open. Hidlay will compete at 70 kg, while Renda will see action at 86 kg.
Hidlay was a 2015-16 ASICS All-America second-team selection at 152 pounds in high school, and in his first collegiate tournament last weekend took top honors at the Southeast Open in his weight class (157 pounds). Renda was a 2016 All-American for NC State last year, placing third overall at 184 pounds.
A second 2016 All-American from NC State will also be in action, as Tommy Gantt will also wrestle at 70 kg. Gantt and Hidlay will be joined in that weight class by current NC State assistant coach Adam Hall.
Former Wolfpack wrestler Quinton Godley (74 kg) and Timmy McCall (86 kg) will also be competing for the Wolfpack Olympic RTC.
The Bill Farrell Memorial International Open is an international tournament in all weights except for 61 kg and 70 kg. Those two weights are the world qualifiers which will be held in December. The final will be a best of three to determine the World Team Member.
All six RTC members will be wrestling freestyle this weekend, and the tournament begins tomorrow.
