RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team took down the Boston College Eagles in four sets, 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 19-25, 27-25), Sunday afternoon inside Reynolds Coliseum thanks to 13 blocks in the contest, the most in an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) match by the team this season.
The Wolfpack moves to 13-9 and 6-4 in ACC play, while the Eagles fall to 5-15 and 0-10 in conference action. It was NC State's annual Kay Yow Pink Match.
Worth Noting
- NC State's sixth conference win eclipses the Pack's season totals from 2015 and 2014, as NCSU had just five ACC wins in each of those seasons and 10 matches remain in the 2016 league schedule.
- It was also the first time this season that the Wolfpack has swept a weekend of ACC play, following Friday's 3-2 victory against Syracuse.
- Sunday's match was the 19th meeting between the programs and the lone matchup of 2016, as NC State takes a 10-9 lead in the all-time series.
- The Wolfpack's 13 blocks in the match are the second most on the year, with the squad collecting 13.5 against Campbell.
- Freshman Lauryn Terry made her first start since the UNC-Chapel Hill match on Sept. 22 and turned in career bests in kills (8), attacks (15) and attacking percentage (.400).
- Julia Brown, a junior from Davidson, N.C., also notched a career high with six blocks.
Match Rewind
- NC State was on fire to start the match, racing out to a 9-3 lead after back-to-back kills from Kaitlyn Kearney forcing an early Boston College timeout.
- The Wolfpack continued to pour it on from there, as a 4-0 run extended the tally to 14-5 resulting in BC's second timeout.
- NCSU enjoyed its largest lead of the frame at 22-10 en route to the 25-14 win.
- The second set was even early until NC State scored five consecutive points to grab a 14-10 lead.
- After Boston College rallied to take a 20-19 advantage, the Wolfpack closed out the set on a 6-1 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match thanks to the 25-21 second-set win.
- The Eagles led throughout most of the third set, but did not do so easily, as four unanswered points trimmed the margin to 22-18; however, Boston College responded to win the set, 25-19.
-BC jumped out to 7-2 lead in the fourth set, but NC State didn't panic and slowly chipped away at the lead.
- A block assist by Kearney and Teni Sopitan capped a 4-0 run, as the Wolfpack knotted the score at 16-16.
- Leading 24-23, NC State was denied its first match point opportunity and found itself having to fight off Boston College's set point attempt at 25-24.
- The squad did so successfully with a couple kills from Brown and a combination block from Brown and Kearney sealed the fourth-set win, 27-25, and the 3-1 victory in the match.
