NC State Opens Season at No. 40 in Oracle/ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The NC State men's tennis team opens the season ranked 40th in the first Oracle/ITA rankings, as announced by the organization's office Tuesday afternoon.
The Wolfpack hold the early-season ranking after a successful fall campaign. The team played in eight fall tournaments between ITA and ITF play. The team also won the ITA Carolina Regional Doubles Title for the second year in a row.
Nick Horton and Simon Norenius lead the team with regional singles rankings. Horton is ranked 14th and Norenius, 20th in the Carolina Region. Both upperclassmen played challenging fall schedules with action in high-profile local and national matches.
After a successful summer, Horton continued his good form at the Cary Tennis Championships and advanced to the main draw before falling to the ATP's 111th-ranked John-Patrick Smith.
During the year, Horton played singles matches at the Duke James Bonk Invite, the USTA Mansfield Pro Circuit and the ITA Carolina Regional, finishing with a 6-2 record in ITA play.
Norenius also had a strong fall campaign, ending the first half of the season with a 7-2 mark in singles play. The senior represented the Pack at the ITA All-American Championships and had successful outings at the Duke James Bonk Invitational and the ITA Carolina Regional.
NC State opens its duel season Jan. 17 when it takes on Elon at 10 a.m. and The Citadel at 2 p.m. in a double header. Both matches will be played at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
