RALEIGH – Icy conditions in the area couldn't stop the NC State men's basketball team and visiting Duke from renewing their Tobacco Road Rivalry for the 242nd time. Duke shot nearly 71 percent in the second half to pull away from the Wolfpack 88-78.Â
Â
Key Stats: Anthony 'Cat' Barber led the team with 19 points on an 8-for-14 shooting performance. Abdul-Malik Abu and Caleb Martin each scored 14, while Maverick Rowan added 12 points.
Â
Cody Martin shot 6-for-8 from the floor and tallied 13 points. Lennard Freeman recorded seven rebounds and a career-high six assists.
Â
NC State (11-9, 1-6) shot a blistering 6-for-9 from behind the arc in the first half. The hot shooting fueled a 14-3 run during the first half when the Pack took a double-digit lead over Duke (15-5, 4-3). NC State led 43-36 at halftime and shot .517 from the floor on the day.
Â
Turning Point: With the score tied at 56 with 12:11 remaining in the second half, Duke scored 10 straight points to pull away from the Pack. NC State would cut the lead to seven on multiple occasions, but could not overcome the deficit.
Gott Said It: "The first thing I want to say is that Duke played extremely well in the second half. They shot the ball really well and they gave us all kinds of trouble. I've got to give those guys a lot of credit for how they shot the ball and played really well. I also want to say thank you to the Wolfpack Nation. Wow. I am so proud of our fans, I'm so proud of the way they came out today. With the weather, and the governor making a statement, but our fans came. I'm just so proud of our fans. They deserve for us to get good. I'm very thankful to the Wolfpack Nation, it was great. I thought some things changed in the second half. Cat kind of got kneed in the knee, so hopefully he is okay. From that point forward in the game we were different team. I don't think he scored after that. He had 16 at the half, he hit a three there to start the second half and he took maybe one or two shots after that. That hurt us a lot. Obviously, we need everybody at full strength. We had a hard time guarding them off the dribble in the second half. Their dribble penetration and their three-point shooting were probably the difference. I'm extremely proud of our guys, they don't need to be ashamed one bit. We played very, very well early and had to overcome some things in the second half, but we didn't get it done. We're going to continue to work, and get better, and go from here."

Up Next: NC State hosts Georgia Tech Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. inside PNC Arena. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network stations (WRAL).
