#PackCamp Day 7: Situational

RALEIGH, N.C. - After a day off the practice field, the Wolfpack was back at it Monday morning, going through a 2 hour and 15 minute workout in full pads. For the first time of 2015 #PackCamp, the team scrimmaged live, with a focus on short yardage situations.
"It's going to be good film," said head coach Dave Doeren following the workout, which featured about 15 minutes of rain, but cooler temperatures than last week. "It was our first scrimmage situation with live short yardage work so we could see the finish of the plays. It was third and one, third and two, with the offense running the plays they want to run against the defense and finishing to the ground."
Doeren stressed the importance of playing all the way through the play. "It was good to see Matt Dayes finish a couple of runs. You've got to see the finish instead of just the thud. Defensively you get in bad habits when you can't finish with a tackle so it will be good film for them to watch." Â
After a week of installation, the focus during the second week of camp will be more on specific situations. "Last week was first down, second down, third down. Now we're into the field areas, so red zone, short yardage, backed up at the goalline, two-minute … we'll try to get into more and more situations," Doeren continued.
Notes on Day 7
Meet the Pack Day:Â Approximately 3,500 faithful fans came out to meet the team on Sunday afternoon, including many of the players' parents.
The Schedule:Â The team will have some scrimmage work again during practice on Thursday with a goalline emphasis, then will have its first game-like scrimmage on Saturday.
Â
Never Acceptable: Doeren called out the team in the huddle after seeing more penalties than usual today, emphasizing the importance of "not beating ourselves."Â He added, "We can never be a team that says it's ok to have a penalty."
