Grinnage and Schooley Named to Preseason Watch Lists for National Awards

Returning starters among nation’s top tight ends and centers
RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack junior tight David J. Grinnage has been named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, while senior Quinton Schooley has been named to the preseason list for the Rimington Trophy, which recognizes the nation's top center.
Last season, Grinnage tied for the team lead with five touchdown receptions, with all five coming against Atlantic Coast Conference competition. The Newark, Del., native earned the Wolfpack's "Alpha Rising" award following the 2014 campaign for being the squad's most improved player.
NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.
A native of Chanute, Ks., Schooley has played ever offensive snap in 20 of his 25 career games at NC State. Behind his solid play in 2014, the Wolfpack posted its top rushing total since 1992 and its best yards per carry total in over 50 years.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
Finalists for the Mackey Award will be announced in late November and the winner will be announced on December 9, 2015 and then presented live on December 10, 2015 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. The Rimington Trophy winner will be recognized at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, January 16, 2016.
