RALEIGH, N.C. - Wolfpack junior running back Matt Dayes, who last week was named to the watch list for the Hornung Award, was named today to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award. The award is presented annually to the nation's top college running back and is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
In 2014, Dayes led the Wolfpack with both 1,278 all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns while winning team Offensive MVP honors. He was one of just three players nationally with more than 300 yards rushing, receiving and in returns (Jamal Morrow of Washington St. & Temple's Jahad Thomas were the others).
He is the ONLY player nationally to reach those marks and also boast five or more touchdowns rushing and receiving.
The award, which will name its 26th recipient in 2015, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker.
