Torin Dorn, who was the freshman of the year in Conference USA last season, has transferred to NC State. He will be eligible to play during the 2016-17 season.
"I'm really excited to have Torin join our program," head coach Mark Gottfried said. "He's extremely versatile and can play multiple positions on the perimeter. He is going to become an even better player because he has a great work ethic and is a great competitor. Most importantly, he's a great student and he comes from an athletic background."
Dorn, a 6-5 guard from Charlotte and Vance High School, led the Charlotte 49ers in scoring with 12.0 points per game last season. He added 3.7 rebounds per game with a .505 field goal percentage. He was an all-freshman team honoree in Conference USA and was a finalist for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award.
Dorn's father, Torin Dorn Sr., played seven seasons in the NFL. The elder Dorn played for the Los Angeles Raiders and the St. Louis Rams from 1990-96. The younger Dorn will sit out the 2015-16 season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements and have three seasons of eligibility.
