RALEIGH - Trevor Lacey and Ralston Turner each scored 19 points and a big NC State run allowed the Wolfpack to rout Syracuse 71-57 on Saturday.
Lacey and Turner combined for 13-for-28 shooting and eight 3-pointers as NC State took a close game at halftime and turned the win into a blowout. Anthony 'Cat' Barber added a well-rounded performance of 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Gott Said It: "I'm excited for our guys. It was a great second half. It ends up being a really good win for our team. I thought the difference was in the second half we tried to force the tempo and pick them up full-court. I didn't want them to walk the ball up the court. The first half was so slow. We needed to open it up. Ralston got going making some shots, Cat used his speed and quickness. I thought our defense was pretty good and we made it hard for (Rakeem) Christmas to get going. It ends up being a good day for us."
NC State (19-12, 10-8) trailed 25-17 when a 27-2 run that bridged both halves lifted the Wolfpack to a 17-point lead. Syracuse (18-13, 9-9), playing for the final time this season, did manage to cut the lead to 57-48 but Turner silenced the comeback with a pair of 3-pointers. The lead was its largest late in the game, when Staats Battle hit a trey from the left wing to give NC State a 71-51 lead. The Pack led 26-25 at halftime.
Win With Our Defense: State limited Syracuse to .323 shooting, including a .259 mark in the first half. The Pack also had seven steals and seven blocked shots. During the 27-2 run, NC State held SU to a 1-for-13 shooting stretch.
1965 ACC Champs!: At halftime, NC State honored the 50th anniversary of the 1965 men's basketball team that won the ACC Tournament.
