McGetrick Leads Pack After First Round In Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Lindsay McGetrick shot a 74 in the first round to lead the NC State women's golf team in the first round of the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
McGetrick (+4) is tied for ninth in the 84-player field. NC State also got a solid round out of freshman Cecily Overbey (+6), who is tied for 25th.
"Both Lindsay and Cecily have been working very hard and implementing things they want to see happen in their games," head coach Page Marsh said. "I'm proud of their hard work. From experience they know and we talked about playing one round and one shot at a time."
NC State (+28) is tied with Ohio State for eighth in the team standings. Arizona (+15) is in the lead, followed by host school Florida (+17).
"It was a tough day as far as conditions go but we are looking forward to the next two rounds and moving up the leaderboard," Marsh said. "We talked about executing any game plan with confidence and not being tentative into the greens."
After McGetrick and Overbey, Rachael Taylor carded a 77 and Vivian Tsui a round of 81. Crystal Huang, another freshman, is in the lineup for this tournament and fired an 82.
NC State continues play at Florida's Bostick Golf Course this weekend. Tuesday's first tee time is at 10:30 a.m.
