Pack Concludes Weekend Meet as it Continues to Progress
More athletes earn season-best marks in final day of weekend competitions
Geneva, Ohio, Albuquerque, N.M., and New York, - The NC State track and field team continued to show improvements as it concluded its final day of competition at this weekend's meets. Several Wolfpack student-athletes recorded season-best marks.
SPIRE Invitational:
Shot Put:
Alyssa Dunn opened up competition in field events at the SPIRE Invitational. Dunn recorded a throw of 44'0.00" for 11th place. On the men's side, Jule Rich recorded a season-high mark in the shot put with a throw of 52'9.50". The mark moved him into the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) top-20 standings.
Heptathlon:
Grant Rivers competed in the heptathlon at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, finishing with a score of 4724. On Saturday, Rivers improved his score by over 100 points and held on to earn second place in the heptathlon. His score of 4873 vaults him to fifth place in the ACC standings.
Sprints:
On the track, Will Krehnbrink continued to cut down on his 400m time. The Denver, N.C., native finished eighth out of 42 participants with a time of 48.01, which marks a new indoor collegiate best. Over the course of the indoor season, Krehnbrink has slashed 2.89 seconds off of his 400m time.
Clay Jones picked up a conference qualifying mark in the 800m - finishing 12th out of 48 to book his place at the ACC Indoor Championships. His mark of 1:51.71 is his best finish of 2015 and stands as a new indoor collegiate best for the sophomore.
Vibushan Sivakumaran and Jon Knight also had strong finishes in the 800m. Sivakumaran finished 15th with a mark of 1:52.17, while Knight finished 17th with a time of 1:53.78
Distance:
Gianna Frontera ran in her second 3,000m event of the season finishing in fourth place with a time of 10:02.50. Her time stands as her best finish of 2015 after cutting almost eight seconds off of her previous attempt.
Don Kirby Open and Elite:
After yesterday's field events, NC State's long jumpers returned to the track. Jonathan Addison ran in the 60m dash, while Alexis Perry competed in the 60m hurdles. Two more athletes represented the Pack in the 60m dash and the triple jump-Paisley Simmons and Javonne Antoine.
60m Hurdles:
In the 60m hurdles, Perry posted a finish of 8.31 in the preliminary heat to qualify for the finals. The Durham, N.C., native finished with a mark of 8.29 in the finals for a sixth-place finish.
60m Dash:
Addison finished 17th out of 50 with a time of 6.89 in the men's 60m dash, while Paisley Simmons logged a time of 7.55 in the women's event. The High Point, N.C., native set a new season-high mark and moved up to the seventh spot in the conference standings.
Triple Jump:
In field events, Javonne Antoine concluded NC State's day in Albuquerque, N.M., with a 12th-place finish in the long jump. Her mark of 39'10.50' is a season high and is good for ninth place in ACC standings.
NYRR Millrose Games:
Graham Crawford and Jacob Thomson competed in 3,000m race at this year's Millrose Games at The Armory in New York. The race featured some of the best collegiate competition as well as professional athletes.
Crawford finished fifth with a time of 7:55.89 - which is second in conference standings, top-10 nationally and fourth in NC State history. Crawford set a new indoor personal best with his finish. He ran most of the race near the back of the pack, but a strong kick in the final two laps helped Crawford pass Oregon's Parker Stinson and finish in the top half of the standings. His final splits were 31.42 and 29.98.
Thomson finished ninth with a time of 8:11.30. His mark ranks 19th among the ACC standings in the respective event.
Up Next:
Many of the Wolfpack's student athletes are done competing until the ACC Indoor Championships. Next weekend, a smaller group will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., and Blacksburg, Va., for meets before heading to the conference championships.
