RALEIGH, N.C. - Following a promotion by NC State Student Government, the new student entry gate for football games at Carter-Finley Stadium will be called "The Den."
Earlier this month, Student Government invited students to submit ideas for the "Name Gate 6" contest via email and social media. After the list of submissions was narrowed down, students were able to vote on their favorite and "The Den" was the winner, receiving 48% of the vote.
The winning name was submitted by NC State freshman Allison Wells, an agricultural science major. "As a life-long, die hard NC State fan, I was ecstatic to find out that I won the "Name Gate 6" competition," she said. "I chose "The Den," because a den is where a pack of wolves makes their home. We are a bunch of students (Wolfpack) who are one family (NC State) who come together (our home) to cheer on our favorite team! 'The Den' is OUR home, where we will gather as one big family to show our love and support for N.C. State! One Den…One Pack…One Home!
Throughout the season, "The Den" will play host to pre-game fun and activities for students lined up prior to gates opening. Due to inclement weather for this weekend's game, signage and festivities at "The Den" will begin prior to the Clemson game on October 31. Details for October 31 will be available at a later date.
It's appropriate that an ag sciences major had the winning submission on the week that the Wolfpack celebrates agriculture in the state of North Carolina with the third annual Ag Day. "Even though I did not grow up on a farm, I realized at an early age that I had a passion for agriculture," Wells continued. "Every year, my parents would take me to the NC State Fair, and all I wanted to do was watch other kids show their cows and pigs. I cared nothing for the rides; I just wanted to be in the cow barn! My passion grew as I became involved in FFA and 4-H and finally, I found myself inside the cow barn, showing steers and heifers at the NC State Fair!"
Ag Day festivities begin at 9 AM on Saturday morning at the NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences [CALS] Tailgate on the PNC East Terrace. The CALS Tailgate will feature interactive sponsor exhibits, agriculture machinery displays and photo opportunities.
