RALEIGH, N.C. - Fans walking the ground of Carter-Finley may have taken notice to significant progress in the construction of the Close-King Indoor Practice Facility in recent weeks.
Just over 100 days into construction on the $14 million facility, and the structural steel is currently taking shape. There will be 500 tons of structural steel in place for the Close-King facility over the course of October before the roof is installed.
Noticeable is the forming of the barrel vault roof with a height of 65 feet, that will allow the Wolfpack to run full practices with punts and kickoffs.
When finished, the exterior will be consistent with the look of Carter-Finley Stadium and the Wendell Murphy Center.
Senior Associate Athletics Director, and chair of the university building committee for the project, Michael Lipitz provides a close look at the progress of the Close-King Indoor Practice Facility, set to open in March 2015.
Additional Highlights:
· When completed, it will be a full 120-yard football field
· Four sprint lanes down full length of the field
· Additional training and conditioning space beyond both end zones
· Two viewing platforms - one at the 50-yard line and one in the end zone
· Remote-controlled video cameras
