GLEN COVE, N.Y. - Augusta James was one of 16 players left at the US Women's Amateur Championship before falling in a close match on Thursday afternoon.
James started a busy 38-hole day by winning 2-up over Elizabeth Tong. She moved to the round of 16 against Arizona native Hannah O'Sullivan. James trailed throughout the day but showed resolve by winning the 18th hole to force a playoff. O'Sullivan went on to win after 20 holes.
Earlier in the day, Brittany Marchand fell in the round of 32 Texas native Dylan Kim. Eight players, including O'Sullivan, remain and will play toward Sunday's match play final.
