RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State rifle team began preparing for the 2014-15 season on Thursday with the first official practice. The Wolfpack won the 2014 South Eastern Air Rifle Conference (SEARC) Championship for the third consecutive season.
Alex Martin was the individual champion and he returns for his junior season to anchor the Wolfpack lineup. State also returns sophomore Lucas Kozeniesky, who led the team in air rifle and smallbore average in his freshman campaign.
The Pack also welcomes back Dani Foster to the lineup, after she suffered an injury last year and redshirted the season. Daniel Cliff, Lee Price and George Williams are the other returners and are joined by freshmen Caitlyn Ford and Derya Pekari.
Miller’s Minute
On the first official practice…
“I think it went well. The two freshmen are really enthusiastic and everyone has come back with a really good attitude about what we’re trying to accomplish. Everyone we have this year we should have next year too, so it’s a really good group and we should have a lot of fun.”

Caitlyn Ford
On being a member of the rifle team…
“I’m really excited to be here at NC State. In high school, being on the rifle team felt so voluntary but here at State it’s a lifestyle where you’re going to spend a lot of time with your teammates. It’s much different from high school, but collegiate rifle is awesome.”
Derya Pekari
On the first official practice…
“I was nervous at first, but my team is very supportive and I’m excited about the opportunity I have here at State. I’m excited to train with the team and be coached by the coaching staff. It’s been a lot of fun already, so I’m excited for the season.”
