NC State baseball guided seven players to professional contracts this offseason, but lost amid the high-profile signing period, several Wolfpackers are improving their games dramatically in summer ball.
Rising senior Jake Fincher currently ranks second in the Cape Cod League with a .429 batting average, 96 points higher than third place. Fincher's amassed that number through 20 games with 27 hits, 10 runs, 10 RBIs, three doubles, and a pair of triples.
At present, only Vanderbilt's John Norwood (.438) is outhitting Fincher, and that average has been built over just four games. Fincher made the Cape League All-Star Game in the summer of 2013.
Andrew Knizner hit .281 for the Wareham Gatemen with three doubles and 10 RBIs. The freshman third baseman earned Freshman All-America first team honors from Perfect Game and a second team mention from Baseball America since the end of the 2014 regular season.
Rising junior Jon Olczak was selected to the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game as a starting pitcher for the Wilmington Sharks. Olczak boasts a 2-0 record and a 2.06 ERA through six starts, fanning 42 to 13 walks. CPL All-Star festivities take place July 13-14 at Big Rock Stadium in Morehead City.
