NC State head football coach Dave Doeren has announced that safety Jarvis Byrd has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. Byrd, who missed all of the 2010 and 2011 seasons with separate ACL tears, suffered a third torn ACL in the fifth game of the 2013 campaign and had to sit out the final seven games.
"This is great news for a young man who has overcome so much adversity," said Doeren. "Jarvis is a great leader for our team and his experience will be invaluable to us."
Byrd, a Pahokee, Fla., native started the first five games of 2013 at free safety before the season-ending injury. He has played in 14 career contests, starting eight.
