RALEIGH, N.C. - Led by the second-seeded Nick Gwiazdowski at 285 pounds, the NC State wrestling team will be sending five individuals to the 2014 NCAA Championships, taking place next week in Oklahoma City, Okla. Under second-year head coach Pat Popolizio, the Pack will be sending at least five individuals to the NCAA Championships for only the third time over the past 10 years.
Redshirt-senior KaRonne Jones (197 pounds), junior Tommy Gantt (157), sophomore Sam Speno (141), freshman Pete Renda (174), and Gwiazdowski all were awarded NCAA automatic bids based on their finishes at the ACC Championship on March 8.
Gwiazdowski earned the second seed among the heavyweights. The Pack's redshirt-sophomore is 37-2 on the year and has won 15 straight bouts including both at last week's ACC Championship.
Competition starts next Thursday and runs through the finals on Saturday.
Full brackets for the 2014 NCAA Championships were released on Wednesday and can be found at the link here. A complete preview of the Pack's NCAA participants will be on GoPack.com next week.
