#PACKedSuperBowl: Three Former NCSU Players Win Championship

RALEIGH, N.C. - Seattle’s NC State trio of Steven Hauschka, J.R. Sweezy and Russell Wilson helped the Seahawks to a convincing 43-8 win over Denver and the franchise’s first Super Bowl title. A fourth player, Nate Irving of the Broncos, was the fourth former Wolfpack player to start Super Bowl XVIII Sunday night.
Wilson came out on top of the much talked about QB battle with 2013 MVP Peyton Manning. Wilson was 18-of-25 for 206 yards and threw for two touchdowns. Wilson finished with a QB rating of 123.1.
In winning Super Bowl XVIII, Wilson sets a new NFL record for most wins by a QB in his first two seasons (28), and became only the second former ACC QB to be the starting QB on a Super Bowl winning team (Brad Johnson, FSU, for Tampa Bay in 2002).
Hauschka was perfect for the game, making field goals of 31 and 33 yards in the first quarter, in addition to making all five of his extra points. Sweezy started at left guard for the Seahawks.
Irving started at outside linebacker for the Broncos. In addition to his PBU that prevented a Seahawks TD in the second quarter, Irving was credited with four tackles.
