The Starting 5 - The Top 5 Storylines For This Game
1. ACC SCORING LEADERS COME FROM THE PACK
Trevor Lacey currently leads the ACC in scoring at 18.0 points per game. Last season, NC State's T.J. Warren led the ACC in scoring (24.9). If Lacey were to continue to hold the scoring title, it would be the first time since 2000 two different players from the same team led the ACC in scoring in consecutive years. Terrell McIntyre and Will Solomon of Clemson led the ACC in scoring in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
2. WOLFPACK LED BY THE BACKCOURT
NC State is led by its three-guard attack, with Trevor Lacey, Ralston Turner and Cat Barber combining to score 43.7 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Lacey leads the the ACC and team with 18.0 points per game. Turner, who scored 33 points vs. Tennessee, is averaging 13.5 points per game. Barber, State's starting point guard, is scoring 12.2 per contest and leading the team in assists.
3. PACK LOOKING FOR PAYBACK
Tuesday's game completes a home-and-home arrangement between NC State and Cincinnati. UC defeated the Wolfpack 68-57 in Cincinnati last season. The Wolfpack, in just its second game of the season, trailed just 58-53 with 3:12 left in the game before UC pulled away. Sean Kilpatrick posted 21 points. NC State was led by T.J. Warren with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
4. BLOCK PARTY
NC State is among the national leaders in blocked shots. The Wolfpack stands second in the ACC and 10th in the nation with 6.50 blocked shots per game. NCSU is led in this area by BeeJay Anya, who stands sixth in the country with 3.4 blocks per game. The Pack has five outings with seven or more blocked shots.
5. SAME BACKGROUND
Mark Gottfried and Mick Cronin both cut their teeth as head coaches by spending three seasons at Murray State. Both coaches earned their first head coaching job at the Ohio Valley Conference school. Gottfried was at MSU from 1995-98 and Cronin was the coach there from 2003-06. The two coaches' tenures at the Kentucky school were nearly identical. Here is a comparison of how the two coaches fared in charge of the Murray State Racers:
| Mark Gottfried (1995-98) | Mick Cronin (2003-06) |
| 68-24 (40-12 OVC) | 69-23 (42-10 OVC) |
