NC State Hosts Annual Military Appreciation Day
The Wolfpack’s annual Military Apprecation Day has become a highly anticipated event for NC State fans, as the Department of Athletics goes all out to recognize those who protect our freedom. Here’s a look at some of this year’s festivities:
Adopt-A-Serviceperson: Wolfpack Club members will be hosting troops at their pregame tailgates. The Athletics Department is providing complimentary game tickets.
Pregame Tailgate: Coca-Cola and NC State Athletics are hosting a pregame tailgate party for 400 military personnel, including the Wounded Warriors, ROTC Cadets/Midshipmen and Student Veterans.
Wounded Warriors Walk of Champions: Escorted by the Patriot Guard motorcycles, fans are asked to join the band, cheerleaders and dance team at the Walk of Champions at 12:15 p.m. as the Wounded Warriors arrive to the stadium prior to the football team. The Wounded Warriors will be honored on the field during the first-half of the game.
Coin Toss: Honored Military Members from each branch will be represented at the coin toss.
Veteran Recognition: WWII, Cold War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom
Halftime Ceremony: Will include a special military tribute by the NC State Marching Band, a full-field sized flag and the All-Veteran parachute team jumping into the stadium.
NC State vs. Wake Forest
In the history of NC State football, the Wolfpack has played the Wake Forest Demon Deacons more than any other team. Saturday’s game will mark the 108th meeting between the two squads, with NC State holding a 63-38-6 advantage. The Pack has won 13 of the last 14 meetings with Wake at Carter-Finley Stadium, with the only home loss since 1984 coming in 2006. Overall at home, State has posted a 42-21-5 mark.
Wolfpack Looks for Bowl Eligibility
Heading into the 2014 campaign, one of NC State’s team goals was to advance to a bowl game and then win it. The Wolfpack is one win away from accomplishing the first part of that goal, posting a 5-5 record heading into the final two games of the season.
Dave Doeren has coached bowl eligible teams nine of the 12 years he’s been a full-time D1 coach.
Tough Opposition
The Wolfpack enters the last two games of the 2014 campaign with a 5-5 record with all five losses coming at the hands of ACC foes. Three of those five are currently ranked in the top 25 - Florida State (2), Clemson (18) and Georgia Tech (24). Louisville is receiving votes in the poll.
Combined, the teams who have defeated NC State in 2014 post a 37-11 record this season.
Freshmen/Sophomores Dominate Stats
The freshmen and sophomore classes have accounted for 87% of the teams receiving yards and 64% of its touchdown scoring.
Chubb Brothers to Face Off
NC State true freshman Bradley Chubb saw the most action from scrimmage in his young career on Saturday vs. Georgia Tech, playing a dozen snaps and tallying three tackles. The Powder Springs, Ga., native, who has played mainly on special teams this season, will have some extra incentive when the Wolfpack faces Wake Forest this week.
His brother Brandon is a redshirt junior linebacker for the Demon Deacons and is the squad’s second-leading tackler with 76 stops. Last season, Brandon had four tackles in a win over the Wolfpack.
Bradley and Brandon are the sons of Aaron Chubb, who played linebacker at Georgia and the cousin of Nick Chubb, who is currently a freshman running back for the Bulldogs. Mother Stacy Chubb plans to wear a shirt that celebrates both teams this weekend at the game.
JaySam the Man
Freshman fullback Jaylen Samuels doesn’t see an abundance of action. In fact, in 10 games this season, he’s played just 78 snaps from scrimmage. However, the rookie has the distinction of posting the team’s top rushing average and top receiving average.
Samuels has only carried the ball eight times, but has averaged 12.6 yards per carry. He was the team’s leading rusher in the win at Syracuse, even though he carried the ball just two times for 46 yards. He only has two catches for the season as well, but has averaged 22.5 yards on those grabs.
Samuels had averaged 14.6 yards every time he’s touched the ball this season.
Seniors to Play Last Game in Carter-Finley
The Wolfpack’s senior class will be honored in pregame ceremonies prior to the Wolfpack’s game versus Wake Forest. The senior class consists of seven players who have been with the Wolfpack for five years, as they redshirted a season. One of those seven, Jarvis Byrd, is actually in his sixth season on the squad.

Sade Two Points from Record
Senior kicker Niklas Sade has a chance to become the leading scorer in NC State history this week, surpassing NFF Hall of Famer Ted Brown, who scored 312 points from 1975-78.
Sade has scored 311 points in his career, a mark which ranks second in school history. He needs two points to break Brown’s school mark. Sade has already set one NC State career record with 152 career PATs - the ninth-best mark in ACC history. With 53 career field goals, he has broken Mike Cofer’s school mark.

Making a #STATEMENT
There is a good deal riding on the last two games of the season for Dave Doeren’s young Wolfpack squad. Bowl eligibility, a winning season and winning against in-state teams. For the first time since 1995, the Wolfpack will close out the season facing two of its in-state conference foes.
Pack Sack Attack
After tallying just 12 sacks in the first seven contests, State has tallied 11 in the last three games - including eight at Syracuse. (The Wolfpack did not tally a sack against Georgia Tech, as the Yellow Jackets had just six pass attempts).
Senior defensive end Art Norman leads the team with 5.5 sacks for the season, with 4.5 of those coming in the last three games.
True and Tried
Seven different true freshmen have earned starts for NC State in 2014 - the fifth-highest total in the FBS. True freshman wide receiver Bo Hines has started six contests for the Pack, offensive guard Tony Adams has started six while linebacker Airius Moore and defensive tackle B.J. Hill have each started three. Safety Germaine Pratt, tight end Cole Cook and WR Stephen Louis have also started games for the Pack this season.
