Bob Alejo, who oversees the strength and conditioning training for NC State men's basketball, has earned his field's highest honor. Alejo, Assistant AD/Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Wolfpack, has been named a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC*E) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
The award, the highest mark for a strength coach, recognized Alejo for competencies in exercise science, testing and evaluation, technique, program design and organization and administration of strength and conditioning facilities.
For reaching RSCC*E status, Alejo was awarded with a ring.
"The inscription on the inside of the ring reads 'To all who helped me'," Alejo said. "It would not be possible to have the type of career I've had without role models, mentors and tremendous support from my administrators and colleagues. My heartfelt thanks to all of you."
Alejo came to NC State in 2011 when Mark Gottfried was hired as head men's basketball coach. He served multiple stints in Major League Baseball with the Oakland A's and the New York Yankee.
Alejo was the Director of Strength and Conditioning at UC Santa Barbara from 2005-2008. During that time he was also a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team as strength and conditioning coach for the Gold medal-winning men's beach volleyball team of Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser.
From 1984-1993, Alejo served as strength and conditioning coach at UCLA where he worked with 23 men's and women's teams, including the men's basketball team while current Wolfpack head coach Mark Gottfried was an assistant coach. During his tenure in Westwood, the Bruins won 25 national championships and produced more than 100 All-Americans.
