NC State and Florida State, two teams not used to winter snow will brave the outdoor conditions to play inside PNC Arena Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
The Seminoles (13-6, 4-3) and Wolfpack (13-7, 3-4) have similar profiles within league play. Each team has wins over Notre Dame and Maryland, and each team has losses to Virginia and Duke. A win over FSU would lift the Wolfpack into the top half of the standings at 4-4.
FSU is led by Ian Miller (13.1 ppg, .348 3FG%) while Aaron Miller and Okaro White each average more than 12 points per contest.
Following NC State's game vs. Florida State, the Pack will invade Chapel Hill to play North Carolina Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
The Starting 5 - The Top 5 Storylines For This Game
1. COMEBACK WOLFPACK
On Jan. 20, NC State trailed Maryland 31-20 early in the second half. The Wolfpack erased that deficit and went on to win 65-56. It was the largest comeback of the season for NC State. The Pack would match that comeback in the very next game, deleting a 52-41 deficit to defeat Georgia Tech in overtime. It is the first time NC State has posted a pair of double-digit comebacks in the same season since the 2010-11 campaign. NC State (along with Wake Forest and Pitt) also leads the ACC in wins when trailing at halftime with 3.
2. BEATING FSU COULD RAISE THE PACK
Although the conference season isn't at its midpoint yet, a Wednesday night victory for Mark Gottfried's team could lift it into the top half of the standings. NC State, which has won two straight games, can reach the .500 mark and climb into a tie in the top five in the ACC standings. That would also make both the Wolfpack and Seminoles 4-4 in league play, with the Pack holding the tie-breaker between the two teams.
3. #TONYBUCKETS
T.J. Warren, the ACC's leading scorer at 22.1 points per game, has made a conference-high 166 field goals. His 166th bucket was his biggest of the year, the game-winning floater with 6.2 seconds left to lift NC State to an overtime win over Georgia Tech. The 6-8 sophomore, who ranks third in the ACC with a .506 field goal percentage (minimum 5 FG made per game), posted his 15th 20-point outing of the season in Sunday's victory. The sophomore is the only player in the ACC with multiple 30-point performances, hitting the mark against Florida Gulf Coast (30), Eastern Kentucky (30) and ECU (32). Warren has reached double figures in 21 of his last 23 games and is also among the ACC's leaders in rebounds (7th), offensive rebounds (1st), minutes played (6th) and steals (t-8th).
4. TURNED UP
Ralston Turner has elevated his offensive production in recent games. With T.J. Warren out of the lineup against Maryland, Turner tied his career high with 23 points en route to the win over the Terrapins. He picked up where he left off in the first half against Georgia Tech, scoring seven points during the game's first 3:55. He finished the Tech game with 12 points, and is averaging 17.5 points per game over the last two games.
5. ON THE `MARK' in ACC PLAY
NC State has won 23 ACC games since Mark Gottfried came to NC State. His 20 wins during his first two years was the most for NCSU over a two-year span since the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. NC State also won 20 ACC games during those two seasons. Additionally, Gottfried became just the third coach in ACC history to lead his first two teams to the NCAA Tournament.
